Mazuronis said that " Crime respects no borders and has no nationality. The only way to fight the problem is for everyone to unite in the battle." Benediktsson says that recent drug cases in Iceland point to an Eastern European mafia at work. "The great economical gap between the countries of the east and the countries of the west are the main reason that this mafia thrives and reaches over to Iceland, as well as the opening of borders of former eastern block countries into the EU."
