Video: Scientists move burning lava into a pot

Scientists at the Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Iceland are still very much at work at the lava field Holuhraun north of Vatnajökull. They have released a video which shows them shoving burning hot lava into a pot and cooling it with water.

It's thought that the lava's temperature is somewhere between 800°C and 1000°C. After cooling the lava samples are anazlysed. The average flow of lava at Holuhraun is estimated to be between 230 and 350 cubic meters per second.
