Safe at Last 24. apríl 2007 14:01 Well, finally I can sleep at night, secure in my knowledge that the Norwegian Air Force will be defending my freedom. I will admit, this has had me deeply worried. The Faeroe Islands has been looking more and more like potential aggressors in a North-Atlantic escalation to me. (Seriously, if they find oil there, they could well pay a company, like say Blackwater Security, to orchestrate and carry out an invasion for our fishing rights. Hey, it is theoretically possible at least.) Now those worries have been put to rest. But it is not fair to pick on the smallest of the group - such as the Faeroese population - who for the sole reason of being smaller than us are the butt of every joke in Iceland. I was in the Faeroe Islands recently, and frankly I can't wait to go back. Instead, I think we should find another, more worthy, target for our jokes. Such as maybe the Norwegian armed forces. There are a few classic tales to choose from, such as this story of an accident on Lake Bjerkvik in Nordland in Norway where the international military exercise Cold Response 2006 took place. The ice on a lake did not manage to carry the weight of the tank “Leopard 2”, and the tank sank into the water. Yes, I will definently sleep better tonight.
